| U14 BORDER RAIDERS MID-SEASON REPORT | updated June 23, 2009 | U14 Border Raiders - Chris Dunstan & Tyler Lethlean
Under 14 Moama Border Raiders – mid-season report After a successful season in 2008, we decided to again enter an U14 team in the Football Central League to give some of our younger players the opportunity to play regularly against other clubs. As we had mainly younger players (U12 & 13) we entered the B division which was quite competitive in 2008 but has not proved so this season. After the first round of matches, the 14s are on top of the ladder having kicked 32 goals with only 2 against. Because of the poor standard (or maybe it is our high standard), of competition, FCV have allowed us to enter a second U16 team to give some of our team's older boys a better level of competition and also to offer places in the U14s to other young players. I expect we will be the youngest team in the division but also expect to continue to do very well in all matches. Although we still expect to be successful this season, this move will give all players, those that move into U16s and our current and new U14 players a more competitive game each week - a win-win all round. I wish to thank those new players who have agreed to come into the team mid-season and their parents for making it possible. The team welcomes's Kayde, Tom, Alannah, Bridget, Oscar and John and wishes Brent, Ben S, Ben C and Tyler the best in the 16s. Our opening match at home saw our young team win 11-2 against an unprepared Castlemaine team. Later rounds were also one-sided with a 7-0 nil win over Colts and a 6-0 wins over Spring Gully and Golden City. The team holds the top three places in the goal scoring ladder with U12 player Mitch Langenbacher leading with 14 goals after six rounds. Our strong defence has 3 clean sheets after the first round and despite being a young group, have proved they are more than equal to the task of holding off older and bigger players. Something we have learnt so far this season is that Moama Border Raiders develops quality players more than equal to other clubs and that we should be proud of our achievements. The team plays a clean game with no cards this season and pride ourselves on good sportsmanship. I wish to thank our club sponsors for their support and parents for their efforts each week in getting our team to matches. Mark Dunstan, U14s Border Raiders Coach. | |
